Sundance Films 2009

Thank goodness for my daughter, Shalyse, for waiting in lines DAILY for tickets to Sundance films. My daughters have made the Sundance films a hobby in recent years. I think they see 20-25 films each season. This reason, alone, is why Shalyse should be blogging...but that's a different story. She can give you detail about film categories, point out films that will probably make it to theater, advise you on the best locations to see the films, advise you about how to get tickets when you're on a wait list, etc, etc.

Me, I just like to catch a few interesting or comical films each year and preferably in Salt Lake City. And I DON'T particularly care for the documentaries. Some of the films, my daughters have seen are BAZAAR! But that's another blog post. Many of the films we've watched appear on Showtime (many moons later).

So, here's the films I got to see with her this year:

Black Dynamite
Michael Jai WHite stars as a title vigilante, an Afro-sporting, shamelessly womanizing kung fu mster who is investigating the death of his brother and discovers a nefarious plot involving the distribution of "Anaconda Malt Liquor" in Los Angeles. The film is a spoof of Shaft, Dolemite, and just about every other blaxploitation film from the 1970's.

Motherhood
This film is a funny and poignant comedy about one woman's quest to hold on to her true self as she embraces the heartache and joys of being a mother. Eliza Welch (Uma Thurman) is having a really bad day. A middle-aged mom in post-9/11 Manhattan with two kids, an oblivious husband, and an incontinent dog, Eliza is a consummate multitasker facing the soul-crushing fear that her dreams of being a writer are going down the diaper bin. Motherhood takes place in a single day--a day when Eliza becomes a magnet for the entire city's hostility.

Motherhood is likely to make it to the theatre in a couple of years.

Thanks Shalyse for helping me get to the films this year!

Tayshaun....always in trouble

So Tayshaun got grounded last week. He took gum from my purse without asking. In fact, he's not even supposed to chew gum but the other night I found the evidence (wadded up gum wrappers) beside my purse. So I find him in his room playing with his toys with a potato size right cheek chomping on MY gum. I would have gotten a picture of him but I couldn't take a pic just before grounding him and sending him to bed early, could I?

It doesn't matter because I get lots of chances to catch him in the act. Tonight, he's up to no-good, again. I was in my office trying to organize and he was supposed to be in his room watching tv. But when I came up to check on him, he was watching tv but he had also had helped himself to something else at some point....

Well here he is with his blue teeth/mouth/tongue. He's in the candy again. Since he didn't swipe the candy from my purse, he's not grounded so this time I have mischievious Dennis the Menace on camera. He's such a rascal and it never quits.

In fact as I'm posting these pics, he came into my office to ask me to 'snuggle' him into bed. And now look at him...he's UNbuilding-a-bear. How do you like his birthday hat? A little small, huh? What next?! He's constantly in double dutch trouble.

Go Utes!

It was a snowy night to gather for the Sugar Bowl Game and most made it out - and ALL got home safely. Phew!

Anyways, you all know I'm not much of a football fan but I even had a great time watching the UofU defeat Alabama.

I even talked about making plans to attend a NFL football game next season somewhere, hopefully, warm... maybe Arizona, San Diego, (or Denver). It looks like it's gonna have to be for a Raiders game.

Yes, I actually watched the game - well we tried to watch the game. Between the snow interrupting the DISH signal and the power outages, it was hilarious hearing the moans and groans when we lost the lights or when the tv in the family room had an ERROR message and everyone had to move from the family room to the living room. Most of us played musical chairs throughout the night.

There was LOTS of RED, yummy food, UofU sugar cookies, bantering, jokes, phone texting, betting, and playful kids!

Tayshaun found another Tayshawn. It was quite confusing for us all. Both little boys also went by Tay-Tay so we all quit trying to keep our own in check - we just hushed them both - yea right...wasn't happening!

Fun with Girlfriends in 2008

I have the best girl friends ever! With all the craziness at work, it's soooooooo great to be able to "let my hair down" and just be able to laugh... cry... joke... share... advise... bleep & moan... blah blah blah with some great people! Here's some fun memories from the latter part of 2008 we've shared together.
