We loved this movie. Madison, Tisha and Jazlynn joined us. Believe it or not but Jaz hadn't ever seen any of the original Karate Kids.

I wasn't expecting much mainly because I thought Jaden Smith was a young Karate Kid, since Ralph Macchio was older. I wasn't sure how the pre-teen crush was going to compare to the teenage version. BUT....they pulled it off. Personally, I loved this flick better than the original.

A few reasons why I enjoyed this film more

- I'd mentioned that we reviewed the original Karate Kid I & II before going to this flick. And obviously, film is at a disadvantage 30 years ago. Macchio's karate skills (or lack of) were a little more obvious to me later in life. But in this film, Smith obviously has done tremendous kung fu training. His skills were more believable.

-How can you not fall in love with Jaden? Macchio was a cutie pie but didn't have half the charisma that Smith does. Plus Smith gives a lot of emotion in this film. Tayshaun even cried while Jaden was getting beat up at the beginning of the flick. Tayshaun was definitely feeling it.

-Having the film recorded in China was a plus for me. I loved seeing the beauty China has to offer in the scenery, tradition, culture, etc. I loved that Tayshaun was able to experience this as well.

-One other reason I preferred this flick to the original was the fighting. Boy, you could feel the beatings. The fighting was brutal...but not Kill Bill brutal, thank goodness. I'm sure that's what upset Tayshaun. Jaden really looked like he was hurting at times.

The climatic tournament was right up there with Rocky's boxing matches. We'll definitely buy this one. Loved this!!!
