I'm such a loser. I haven't kept up my blog in ages. This year has been one of the busiest years of my life. I feel like I have a 100 things going on at the same time. I feel like I want to accomplish so much but I don't seem to be doing a good job of any of it. I'm not sure that I'm even accomplishing anything.
Let me back up a little. With this being Tayshaun's first year of school, I've taken on chauffeuring, schoolmarm, sports coach...and let's not forget cook, maid, playmate, and career girl.
With Tayshaun's school being so far from home, I lose about 2 hours a day just in travel time. Last fall, Tayshaun wanted to give karate a try so we began three evenings a week at the dojo. In early spring, I found an 8-week basketball camp in, no other than, Lehi which was another 1 hour evening + the 60 minute travel time driving from downtown to Lehi in the 5:00 traffic. Thank goodness Mom helped out by getting Tayshaun from school on those days. And about 2 weeks before basketball camp ended, baseball began. So on Mondays, I went from downtown, to Lehi, back to Hunter for baseball, and if baseball ended soon enough, a stop off in Taylorsville to end the day with karate.
Oops! What am I talking about? That didn't end the day, there. Because when we got home from all of these sporting activities, we'd be starving. While making and then eating dinner, Tayshaun would sound out his spelling words for the week. And after bathing and brushing our teeth, I gave an end-of-the-day spelling quiz which sometimes ended with a yelling match. Tayshaun has become a great speller this year. But when he's lazy, it's just a waste of my time and energy quizzing him. I had to give up the 20 minutes of reading to Tayshaun a night, otherwise, we would have been up until 11:30 instead of 10:30pm each night.
From 10:30-midnight, I am allowed some Yvette time. And then, back at it at 4:30am because besides getting ready for work/school in the morning, we scramble to find baseball gear, karate gear, and basketball gym clothes & basketball to begin the craziness all over again.
When basketball camp ended, that was just about the time that the upgrade at work began. With a skeleton crew, we're finding that each member of our team is putting in the work of 2+ people. So now my norm has been...all of the above AND working from home just to catch up. Four hours of sleep a night, just doesn't cutting it. And here I am on a Saturday morning (1:02AM), blogging. Sometimes Yvette time goes beyond midnight.
Want to hear something funny? NO vacation days until the upgrade ends. I have never in my life sold vacation instead of used it. I love my time off of work and I cherish my vacation days but when I don't get a chance to use it, I have the option to lose it or not earn anymore vacation until I use/sell some of it. So I have, I don't know, roughly 260 hours...what is what? 6-7 weeks of vacation just calling my name.
With Shalyse getting sick, I haven't been able to focus on what it will take me to commit to donating a body part to her because I can't take a frikkin' day off to get a mammogram, much less, clean my house. Mom, thank you, for cleaning up for me. I managed a Vegas weekend trip and when I returned home I wasn't able to unpack my suitcase even after being home two weeks. So Mom took pity on me and tidied up for me.
Blah blah blah blah blah waa waa waa waa waa! I know, I'm whining.
Poor Tayshaun! I've blown my cool more times than I'm able to count. Right in the middle of my busy year, Tayshaun decides to step up his mischieviousness to full-throttle mode. He's had a few reprimands at school for being disruptive in class. He's sometime uncooperative in baseball when he decides to express his strong-will. No, there are no "taking your base" in a baseball game when using a pitching machine. If you don't swing, you strike out. And throw the ball over the coaches head in practice isn't going to get you any brownie points, young man!!! Tayshaun has been grounded more days this year than not. I think he's watched tv for a total of approximately 20 days in all of 2011. That's probably not a bad thing, though.
In 2011, I had such great aspirations of mastering photography, learning photoshopping, making iMovies, organizing my office and maybe some closets, learning patient mothering, tutoring my kindergartener, exploring meditation, consistently visiting the gym BUT...I can't seem to find the time, or energy, or patience for any of my goals. So I manage to pull out a blog about once every other month.
In June, the upgrade should be complete, school and baseball will be done, and hello! vacation days. I think I'll even look forward to two months of recovery and bed rest...that is, if I'm a match for Shalyse.
Then, another challenge begins in 2011.
